Men's & Women's Swimming Return Home Victorious

SALEM, Ore. - Both of the University of Puget Sound swimming teams are returning from Willamette University with team wins and plenty of individual victories. The women bested the Bearcats 110-95, and the men also came out on top with a score of 136-68.

Relay Highlights
Just like in yesterday's meet against Linfield, the Logger men's relay teams finished strongly. Will Cabana, Lance Mielke, Sam Lyon, and Emory Burden won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.98. The Logger men also took the top three spots in the Men's 200-yard freestyle relay, with Will Cabana, Cam Aaselund, Campbell Wencel, and Emory Burden in first place, Kai Sackreiter Josh Cunningham, Joel Liu, and Bryce Kirk in second, and Jonah Kembel, Logan Cezar, Devin Goetsch, and Taro Tsuji in third. Logger women Lelia Ollenburg, Harper McGuire, Abby Prouty, and Sara Guillen took first in their 200-yard freestyle relay with a winning time of 1:45.48.

Women's Results

  • 1650-yard freestyleCamille McClafferty finished first with a time of 19:08.19, followed by teammates Ayla Rowan and Abby Prouty, who had times of 19:45.19 and 20:03.94, respectively. 
  • 50-yard freestyle: Trinity Link finished first with a time of 25.64
  • 400-yard IMHazel Knight finished in second, just seven seconds from first place with a time of 5:08.46,
  • 100-yard backstrokeTrinity Link yet again took the top spot on the podium, with a finals time of 1:01.00.
  • 500-yard freestyle: Sara Guillen finished first, followed by Harper McGuire, with times of 5:38.73 and 5:52.08, respectively.
  • 100-yard breaststroke: Trinity Link finished yet again in first place, with a time of 1:09.44.

Men's Results

  • 1650-yard freestyleSam Lyon finished in first place with a final time of 17:25.97.
  • 200-yard freestyleLance Mielke came out on top, with a winning time of 1:53.68.
  • 50-yard freestyleWill Cabana topped the podium with a time of 22.91.
  • 400-yard IMDevin Goetsch led the race with a winning time of 4:26.41, closely followed by Jonah Kembel, who had a time of 4:26.89.
  • 100-yard freestyle: Sam Lyon returned to the podium, finishing with a top time of 49.54.
  • 100-yard backstroke: Brandon Tsang secured his win with a two second lead over second place, with a time of 55.68.

Looking Ahead

The Loggers are in the pool for practice this week until Satruday, February 1st, when they take on Pacific Lutheran at home for their "Make a Splash" senior day meet, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
