Women's Swimming Ties, Men's Swimming Beats Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound swimming teams showcased their continued growth with a series of standout performances in their dual meet against Linfield University on Friday, January 24, 2025. The Logger men claimed a decisive 124-81 victory, while the Logger women ended with a 101-101 tie against a Linfield program that finished second in the Northwest Conference last season. The Logger women, who finished fifth last year, displayed remarkable progress highlighting the team's rising potential.

Relay Highlights

Both teams came into the meet off of strong wins versus George Fox last weekend and continued their powerful momentum into the competition versus Linfield. The Logger relay teams set the tone early, with a win in the men's 400-yard medley relay. Loggers Will CabanaLance MielkeCam Aaselund, and Emory Burden earned the first place finish with a time of 3:36.62, narrowly edging out Linfield's top relay squad. On the women's side, the team of Pia LihouTrinity LinkHazel Knight, and Abby Prouty delivered a crucial victory with a time of 4:11.36, giving the Loggers early momentum in team scoring.

Women's Results

  • 1000-yard freestyleSara Guillen finished second with a time of 11:35.83, followed by teammate Harper McGuire in third at 11:45.01.
  • 200-yard freestyleAyla Rowan claimed second place with a time of 2:07.15, while Hazel Knight finished fourth at 2:12.27.
  • 50-yard freestyleLelia Ollenburg was the top Logger finisher in third place with a time of 26.46.
  • 100-yard freestyleTrinity Link earned first place with a time of 54.68, pacing the women's team.
  • 200-yard individual medleyTrinity Link again led the way with a first-place finish at 2:12.33, while Camille McClafferty took second at 2:21.82.

Men's Results

  • 1000-yard freestyleBryce Kirk secured third place with a time of 10:50.91.
  • 200-yard freestyleSam Lyon earned first place with a time of 1:49.31, while Gavin Legere and Campbell Wencel placed third and fourth, respectively, at 1:53.70 and 1:55.70.
  • 50-yard freestyleEmory Burden claimed victory with a time of 22.31, while Joel Liu finished second at 22.75.
  • 200-yard butterflySam Lyon captured another first-place finish, clocking in at 1:57.16, followed by Bryce Kirk in fourth with a time of 2:06.43.
  • 200-yard breaststrokeLance Mielke took second place with a time of 2:13.36, narrowly missing Linfield's Kai Laitinen (2:12.85).

Looking Ahead

The Loggers are back in action today, January 25, against Willamette University. They will then host Pacific Lutheran University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, for their Senior Meet. Fans are encouraged to attend and take part in the "Make a Splash" event, designed to pack the aquatic center and create an exciting atmosphere for the Loggers.

The Loggers will cap their season at the Northwest Conference Championships, February 13-15, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. With strong momentum, Puget Sound is poised to make waves in the postseason.
