Smith and Goode Pace Loggers at NWC Fall Classic

| By:
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- Puget Sound wraps up their first conference event of the season at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, finishing in 6th place overall at Oswego Lake CC.

How it Happened
Day 1
The Loggers stayed consistent in round one of the Fall Classic, as they embarked on a golf course that has yet to be featured in any Northwest Conference major. Oswego Lake CC is a tough tree-lined and hilly course in Lake Oswego, Ore., and provided a good challenge for the Loggers.

Kira Goode posted the best round of the day, shooting a four-over 40 on the back nine to finish with an 83 (+10). Cayton Smith also shot in the 80s, shooting an 85 (+12) to finish two shots back of Goode. She led the team with three birdies, and was a total of two under in her first three and last three holes. Elise Munding and Francesca Brinkman both carded a 90 (+17), rounding out the scoring four. Abigail Udlock wasn't too far behind, shooting a 99 (+26) to conclude Day 1 scoring.

Day 2
The Loggers stayed in sixth place in round two, as the wind picked up significantly. On a tough day, where more than half of the teams added strokes to their day-one score, the Loggers still managed to put together a couple of solid stretches.

Smith led the way, shooting an 88 (+15). She got off to a great start, even creeping into the top 10 after being two-over through eight. A couple of big numbers plagued Smith on the back nine, but she was still able to hold onto a top-25 finish. Goode had two birdies on the back nine to shoot an 89 (+16), finishing the day in 20th.

Munding shot a final-round 92 (+19), but had a phenomenal stretch in the middle of the second round. Starting on hole nine, she rattled off a birdie and five pars in a row, improving on her front nine by 10 strokes. Brinkman shot a 94 (+21) and Udlock shot a 105 (+32) to round out the Loggers' scoring.

Coach's Thoughts
"The conditions were tough, pouring rain on day one, and swirling wind on day two," said Logger head coach Conner Robbins. "The team is close, they just need to stay a little more positive on the course, which will lead to positive results in the future."

What Happens Next
The Loggers head to the Confluence Classic in Walla Walla, Wash. on October 19th and 20th.
