NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Loggers get their first pair of victories in Northwest Conference play, taking down George Fox 136-106 on the women's side, and 191-52 on the men's side.
How it Happened
Despite still producing a team score, today was a special type of day. After completing the first four races, events 5-25 were all thrown into a hat, and selected at random. The only caveat – the swimmers were already selected before the race was chosen. For the first time, the Loggers swam in a "Mystery Meet," as nearly everyone had to swim an event they weren't used to. This bit of fun was a bit of Halloween fun, as both Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran made the trip down to George Fox.
Anderson Bennett got the log rolling for Puget Sound, winning the 500 freestyle with a quick time of 5:07.39.
Daphne Khong, a freshman alongside Bennett, showed her strength in the 500 free as well. She took the victory with a 5:29.48.
Maddy Brennan picked up the next victory, winning the 200 IM in the first women's event out of the hat. She picked up a smooth 3-second win, swimming a time of 2:16.92.
Sam Lyon then picked up a 100 backstroke victory, winning by a wide margin. He got out of the gates fast and never looked back, swimming a 54.35 to log the fourth Puget Sound victory of the day.
Anthony Sampson won the 100 butterfly, Brennan won the 200 freestyle, Kai Sackreiter and Leila Ollenburg won the 50 free, and both Puget Sound "A" teams won the 200 Freestyle relays to cap off a successful, yet fun, day in the pool.
Coach's Thoughts
"It was fun to compete in a completely new format!" said Logger head coach
Jay Daniels. "The mystery meet format kept us guessing and was a fun challenge. It was exciting to see our team's versatility throughout the day."
