Loggers Finish Day 1 of Logger Invitational in 3rd Place

| By:
TACOMA, Wash. -- Both the Puget Sound men's and women's teams finished in third after day one of the Logger Invitational, setting some new personal bests along the way.

How it Happened
In the finals, the Loggers kicked off the meet with the 200 freestyle relay. A team of Will Cabana, Kai Sackreiter, Sam Lyon, and Emory Burden cruised to a fourth-place finish, as the B-team pulled in right behind them in fifth.

The women's team also raced well, coming in second place just behind DII Simon Fraser. Adison Cosbey-Lewis, Maddy Brennan, Holly Zipay, and Lelia Ollenburg finished with a time of 1:38.93, kicking off the finals with some momentum.

After Brandon Tsang and Amy Madsen both placed 6th in the 50 Backstroke, Sam Lyon was the top NWC finisher in the 500 freestyle. He swam a 4:38.23, which was good enough for second place just behind SFU's Owen Nicholson. Laleeta Pal also made the finals in the 500 free, beating her prelim time by two seconds and placing 7th. Anderson Bennett then placed sixth in the men's 200 IM, while Brennan came in with a time of 2:11.52 to place seventh.

The star of the show was Burden in the men's 50 free. He beat his already impressive time of 20.88 by over 20 milliseconds, finishing with a 20.65. That was good enough for the fourth fastest time in Puget Sound history, and just 0.05 seconds behind his personal best of 20.60.

Ollenburg also crushed it in the women's 50 free. After placing first in the prelims, they cruised to an impressive 24.43 to take second in the event. Their prelim time of 24.20 tied the fifth-fastest time in Puget Sound history, as they're officially etched into the history books.

In one final event of the evening, the Loggers finished day one of the Logger Invite well. The women's team broke their seed time by over five seconds in the 400 medley relay, concluding their evening with a fifth-place finish. The men's squad nearly broke another school record in the same event, as Cabana, Bennett, Lyon, and Burden just missed the mark by 0.16 seconds. They raced well, finishing the day in 3rd.

What Happens Next
The Loggers will be right back in action on December 6th, with prelims at 10:00 am and finals at 6:00 pm.
