Lyon Breaks 100 Butterfly Record on Day 2 of Logger Invite

| By:
TACOMA, Wash. -- Sam Lyon breaks the men's 100 butterfly record in day two of the Logger Invite, as both the men's and women's teams finish the day in third place.

How it Happened
Lyon didn't just break the men's 100 fly record once; he beat it twice in one day. In the prelims, he edged out the previous record held by 0.02 seconds, passing the record set by David Haynes in 1987. He then beat his own record in the finals, finishing with a 49.46 to claim first place in the event.

The Loggers carried that good mojo throughout the rest of the finals, as the men's 200 IM relay team started the finals with a 3rd place finish. The women's team followed suit, racing to a 1:50.39 to place fourth.

Amelia Mercado had a solid race in the women's 50 breaststroke, making the A-Finals after a solid prelim swim. She finished in eighth, but improved on her time by nearly half a second. Devin Goetsch followed that up with a podium finish in the men's 400 IM, while Bryce Kirk, who also made the A-final, placed sixth. Hazel Knight and Pia Lihou made the A-finals in the women's 400 IM as well, finishing in sixth and seventh to earn points for the Loggers.

While Lyon stole the show in the men's 100 butterfly, Maddy Brennan also had a solid performance on the women's side. She finished third in a nail-biter, swimming a 58.30 to land a spot on the podium. Lelia Ollenburg finished right on Brennan's heels, hitting the wall at 58.82 to finish in fifth.

In the men's 200 freestyle, Jonah Shi raced his way into the A-final. Despite an eighth-place finish, he beat out 10 swimmers in the prelims to land a spot in the finals. Laleeta Pal found her way into the women's 200 free A-Finals as well, finishing the heat in fifth.

In the men's 100 breaststroke, Anderson Bennett raced his way to a T-2 finish, touching the wall at the same time as Simon Fraser's Thomas Bakica. Adi Cosbey-Lewis made the finals in the women's 100 breaststroke, placing seventh for the Loggers.

In the men's 100 backstroke, Will Cabana showed his strength. He placed fifth, capping off a solid race. The women's 100 backstroke saw Harper McGuire place fifth as well, as Pia Lihou swam her way to a smooth eighth-place finish.

The teams capped off the evening with the 800 freestyle relay, with the men's team placing fourth, and the women's team placing third.
