Loggers Finish NWC Swimming Championships on High Note

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound swim teams capped off the 2025 Northwest Conference (NWC) Championships on Sunday with standout performances at the King County Aquatic Center. Several Loggers secured top finishes, with Trinity Link and Emory Burden highlighting the day's results.  

In the women's 100-yard freestyle, Link delivered a stellar swim, touching the wall first in 52.57 seconds to claim the conference title (NWC Championships, 2025). Teammate Abby Prouty placed tenth overall with a time of 54.77, while senior Sara Guillen finished 15th at 55.54.  

On the men's side, Burden raced to a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 46.07. Freshman Kai Sackreiter followed closely behind in tenth (47.23), while Jonah Kembel earned 15th place with a time of 47.62.  

Puget Sound also excelled in the 200-yard butterfly. Sam Lyon  secured a silver-medal finish in 1:51.13, while Bryce Kirk touched in fourth at 1:53.19. In the B-final, Devin Goetsch posted a strong 1:56.32 to place tenth.  Lyon was honored with the NWC Conference Award for Rookie Men's Swimmer of the Year.

The Loggers closed out the championships with a second-place finish in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Will Cabana, Sackreiter, Lyon, and Burden combined for a time of 3:05.34, narrowly missing the top spot. On the women's side, Puget Sound's relay team—Lelia Ollenburg, Link, Prouty, and Guillen—secured third in 3:36.32.

Seniors throughout the conference were honored near the end of the day. Puget Sound's graduating class consists of Josh CunninghamJaden FrancisLara Franco, Sofia Gaspar, Sara GuillenJulia Meyers, and Lance Mielke.

The men's team finished the year in second place in the NWC standings and the women's team finished third.
