Women's Tennis Unable to Top Pioneers

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's tennis team battled through a competitive afternoon at the Tennis Pavilion on Saturday but came up short against Lewis & Clark, falling 5-2 in Northwest Conference action.

The Loggers (1-6, 1-5 NWC) started strong in doubles play, securing victories at No. 1 and No. 2 to take an early advantage. The pairing of Paige Shinall and Kaylee Yamada edged out Susanna Anand and Charlotte Makoni 7-5 at the top spot, while Hyla Chatham and Pearle Buck pulled off a 6-4 win over Maya Curry and Taylor Stadjuhar. Lewis & Clark (3-5, 2-2 NWC) avoided the sweep with a dominant 6-2 performance at No. 3 doubles from Kacie Lau and Hayley Kreps.

Momentum shifted in singles play, where the Pioneers took control. Anand set the tone with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over Yamada at No. 1 singles. Kreps, Lauren Smith-Euben, Anna English, and Lau followed suit, each claiming straight-set wins for Lewis & Clark. Shinall provided a bright spot for the Loggers, grinding out a tight 6-4, 7-6 win over Makoni at No. 2 singles to secure Puget Sound's lone singles point.

Despite the loss, Puget Sound showed flashes of strong play, particularly in doubles competition. The Loggers will look to build on that momentum as they prepare for their next matchup at Whitman.
