ROCHESTER, New York —
Alex Rhodes made yet another statement at the national level, this time at the NCAA Division IIII Indoor Track & Field Championships, dominating the competition in the 400-meter final before narrowly missing out on a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
Rhodes, who entered the finals as the top seed in the 400m after leading all heats in the preliminary races, delivered a commanding performance, crossing the finish line with a time that put him 0.71 seconds ahead of the runner-up. The margin was without a doubt decisive, cementing Rhodes as a national champion and proving his dominance in the event.
Just an hour later, he was back on the track for the 200m final. In a race that came down to the slimmest of margins, Rhodes finished third, missing out on second place by an agonizing 0.001 seconds to Londyn Little of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The photo finish left little room for separation, but Rhodes still capped off his nationals appearance with two top-three finishes.
A first-place medal and a well-earned third place finish means that Rhodes departs Rochester as one of the most outstanding athletes of the weekend.
