LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Puget Sound Crew has staked their claim once again at American Lake, retaining the Lamberth Cup for the third consecutive year, beating the PLU Women's team in their first meeting of the season. The Loggers' varsity eight got off to a fast start, said Head Coach Dave Hammond, "edging out the Lutes, breaking the race open at about 700m, and successful pushing ahead to put the race out of reach for the Lutes with their fastest time of the season: 7:33.0. McKenna Kalkbrenner for "effectively stroking to the boat to secure the Cup" and to Maddie Johnson for securing her personal third straight Lamberth Cup victory. Pacific Lutheran finished with a time of 7:49.2 and 8:48.4 in their second boat.
In the second action of the day, the Loggers faced Seattle University, University of Portland, and Northwest Conference opponent Pacific University. After getting off to a fast start, the Loggers dropped back to concede to the Pilots and Redhawks, putting up an impressive fight. Puget Sound's 4 also raced today, competing against University of Portland and Pacific University.
Logger women's Crew next heads to Lewis & Clark on April 5th, and the men's team will simultaneously compete at the Collegiate Covered Bridge Regatta.
