Alex Rhodes: NCAA DIII West Region Track Athlete of the Year

| By:

TACOMA, Wash. – University of Puget Sound sophomore Alex Rhodes has been named the West Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year for NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Portland, Oregon, native capped his indoor season in historic fashion, winning the 400-meter title at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships and finishing third in the 200 meters.

Rhodes' dominance in the 400 meters was unparalleled this season. He recorded three of the four fastest marks in NCAA DIII history, including a blistering 46.44-second performance, the second-fastest ever recorded at this level. His additional marks of 46.55 and 46.71 seconds further solidified his status as one of the premier sprinters in Division III. Additionally, he posted two sub-47.75 efforts on oversized tracks.

The 2025 indoor season was a continuation of Rhodes' rapid ascent in collegiate sprinting. During the 2024 outdoor campaign, he made waves by qualifying for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships in both the 200 meters and 400 meters as a first-year athlete. He set a then-personal best of 46.98 in the 400 meters and demonstrated remarkable potential in the 200 meters with multiple sub-21.5-second performances.

With the outdoor season now underway, Rhodes is poised to build upon his historic indoor success. His performances this spring will be pivotal as he aims for another championship run and continued record-setting achievements.

Puget Sound Track & Field will host the Peyton-Shotwell Invitational this Saturday, March 29th. Live timing will be made available at the time of the meet.
