TACOMA, Wash. — After a few tough weeks and a stretch of matches that didn't quite break their way, the Puget Sound men's tennis team came storming back in dominating fashion Saturday, taking down Linfield with a decisive 5-2 victory.
The Loggers swept all three doubles courts, setting the tone early with aggressive net play and cohesion. That sweep would prove crucial, anchoring a performance that showed grit, depth, and a serious mid-season gear shift.
The match clincher came from Vincent Unpingo at the No. 6 singles spot, whose calm composure and big forehand sealed the deal.
Jackson Stumpf picked up a smooth 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5, earning back-to-back singles victories and showcasing the type of form the Loggers have been waiting to see. Meanwhile, at No. 4,
Trent Beckman battled through for a gritty win — a meaningful moment on the home court.
Though the Loggers dropped matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions, both were hard-fought.
Carson Ward's match came down to a nail-biting third-set tiebreaker, which he lost by just two points.
"We've been pushing the guys pretty hard," said Head Coach Matt Simons. "To see them respond like this after a tough week, that's huge."
The Loggers return home next weekend to battle Lewis & Clark.
