TACOMA, Wash. — In a meet that featured standout efforts across the board, the University of Puget Sound Track & Field team secured a second-place overall team finish this weekend.
The distance squad set the tone early, headlined by Oliver Kreimer's commanding win in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:28.85.
Ben Kerr continued to be a force on the track, seizing gold in the men's 1500 meters with a 3:55.92 finish and returning to grab silver in the 800 meters (1:57.98). Teammate Tdhosan Sunray was right on his heels in the 800, earning third in 1:58.16.
In the sprints, Kyrstin Wilson stood out once again. She sprinted to second place in both the women's 100 meter dash at 12.22 and in the 200 meter dash at 24.89, then anchored the women's 4x100 relay team to a first-place finish alongside Sophia Rivas, Elizabeth Beiswanger, and Victoria Bradshaw with a time of 48.89.
Alex Rhodes blazed his way to gold in the 200 meters with a sharp 21.90, while Mercer Stauch landed third in the 400 dash at 51.08.
The distance dominance continued as Erin Schmidlin powered through the women's 5000 meters to take first place in 18:22.31.
In the men's 5000, Cian Monaghan (15:08.75) and Emerson Ingraham (15:48.60) claimed second and third, respectively, adding vital points for the team.
In the field events, freshman Thomas Goeglein had a monster outing. He won both the men's discus (44.19m) and shot put (14.26m).
Carly Wayss added another win for the women with a first-place toss of 41.80 meters in the hammer throw, while Callie Katsura (discus, 34.11m) and Lianna Saucedo (javelin, 28.63m) each earned second-place finishes.
Jerrik Wade (45.18m, 2nd in javelin), Dylan Cordeiro (3.82m, 3rd in men's pole vault), and Brogan Murphy (6.63m, 2nd in long jump) all delivered clutch performances in their respective fields.
