Women's Tennis Unable to Top Whitworth

TACOMA, Wash. – Despite competitive stretches in several matches, the Puget Sound women's tennis team fell 7-0 to visiting Whitworth early this afternoon.

The Pirates (10-9) claimed the doubles point with three decisive wins. Whitworth's No. 3 pair of Olivia Corbett and Audrey Judson set the tone early, blanking Krishna Agrawal and Zoe Hughes 6-0. The Pirates continued their momentum at No. 1 doubles, where Gracie Smyley and Faith Kert overpowered Kaylee Yamada and Paige Shinall, 6-1. Whitworth sealed the sweep as Clara Todd and J. Turner-Esposito downed Pearl Buck and Hyla Chatham 6-2 at the No. 2 position.

In singles action, the Loggers (3-12) were unable to notch a point, but showed fight in stretches. Senior Krishna Agrawal pushed Whitworth's Paige Oliver in a gritty first set at No. 3 singles, narrowly falling in a 7-6 (7-2) tiebreak before Oliver pulled away 6-0 in the second. At No. 2, Shinall displayed resilience in the second set but ultimately dropped her match to Kert 6-1, 6-3.

Whitworth wrapped up the match with straight-set wins across all six singles contests. Corbett and Judson, who had dominated in doubles, followed up with wins at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively, while Smyley secured a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Yamada at the top spot.
