Crew Wins NWC Championships, Coach Hammond Wins COTY

Puget Sound claimed the Northwest Conference Championship for the second consecutive year, powered by a standout performance from the Logger varsity eight. The team secured the Judy McMullan Trophy by winning the women's varsity eight race in a time of 7:20.5.

The Loggers got off to a fast start, pulling ahead of the field within the first 600 meters. They extended their lead by the halfway mark and held strong through the second half of the race to bring home the championship.

Three Loggers earned First Team All-Conference honors: Ellery Garcia, Luci Reed, and Maddie Johnson.

Reed stepped up in the stroke seat and led the boat with poise and consistency, helping set the rhythm that guided Puget Sound to victory. Garcia's length and power in the middle of the boat provided a critical engine that helped the Loggers separate from the competition. Johnson also rowed in the middle of the boat, playing a key role in maintaining synchronicity from stern to bow. Her efforts served as a critical anchor for the boat's cohesion and performance.

In addition to the varsity eight's victory, Puget Sound boats across multiple events added to a dominant showing on Vancouver Lake. The men's pair, men's novice four, and women's novice four all crossed the line ahead of their competition, capping off a successful day of racing for the Logger crew.

Head Coach Dave Hammond was also awarded honors - Coach of the Year, as voted by the opposing NWC head coaches.

Logger crew next races at WIRA Championship, in Gold River, California, on April 26th.
