Successful Day Two at WIRA Championships for Crew

GOLD RIVER, Calif. — Puget Sound rowing showcased resilience and speed at the 2024 Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships on Saturday, racing across multiple events and bringing home a notable win in the Women's Varsity 8+ Petite Final.

The Women's Varsity 8+ set the tone early, winning their Petite Final by a commanding margin. The Loggers clocked a time of 7:10.535, pulling ahead of California Lightweights (7:17.202) and Pacific Lutheran (7:19.217). It was a wire-to-wire performance from Puget Sound, who gained control of the race early and never looked back.

Later in the day, the Men's 2- took to the water for their Grand Final. Facing strong competition from California schools, Puget Sound finished sixth overall with a time of 8:11.702. UC Davis won the event in 7:23.353, followed closely by UC Santa Barbara's B boat at 7:24.641.

In the Women's 2- Grand Final, the Loggers battled tough conditions and a deep field. Puget Sound finished fifth with a time of 9:19.811. California Lightweights (Berkeley) secured the top spot in 8:37.425.

The Women's Novice 4+ wrapped up the day for Puget Sound, turning in a strong performance in their Grand Final. The Loggers crossed the line in third place, clocking 8:06.936. Santa Clara (7:59.873) and Portland (8:04.003) claimed the top two spots, but Puget Sound held off Seattle University to secure the podium finish.
