PORTLAND, Ore. -- The University of Puget Sound track & field teams wrapped up an exciting Northwest Conference Championship meet on Saturday with a series of standout performances, personal records, and relay victories, finishing fifth on the men's side (69.5 points) and eighth on the women's side (66 points).
Kyrstin Wilson had a stellar day on the track, claiming second place in the 100m dash with a blazing 12.08 before capturing the NWC title in the 200m, crossing the line in 24.84. Her outstanding performances throughout the meet earned her the honor of Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Year. Wilson wasn't done there-- she teamed up with Lizzie Beiswanger, Sophia Rivas, and Victoria Bradshaw to win the women's 4x100m relay with a season-best time, and later anchored the women's 4x400m relay team, alongside Beiswanger, Bradshaw, and Erin Schmidlin, to another first-place, season-best finish.
Beiswanger also shined individually, winning the women's 400m in 56.54. Whitney Nelson ran a new personal best in the 400m hurdles (1:06.99) to place sixth. In the mid-distance events, Schmidlin placed fifth in the 800m (2:20.63) and set a PR to finish third in the 1500m (4:40.06). Brooklyn Gildersleeve-Stiles and Emily Moore both notched personal bests in the women's 5000m.
On the men's side, Avery Keith delivered an impressive double, placing third in the 200m with a season-best 22.15 and winning the 400m in a commanding 48.27. Keith also contributed to both the men's 4x100m (Brogan Murphy, Bryson Boyea-Quiton, Matthew Hannah, and Keith) and 4x400m relays (Mercer Stauch, Tdohasan Sunray, Boyea-Quiton, and Keith), helping the 4x400m to a third-place finish. Ben Kerr posted a strong second-place finish in the men's 1500m (3:53.27), and Cian Monaghan secured third in the 5000m with a massive PR of 14:45.35.
The Loggers also found success in the field events. Thomas Goeglein set personal bests while placing second in both the discus (47.37m) and shot put (14.80m). Taylor Rees added points with a fifth-place finish in the men's hammer throw (46.36m), and Rosali Patterson earned a fifth-place finish in the women's discus (37.00m).
The season isn't over yet -- various Loggers will compete over the next two weekends at meets throughout Oregon.
