WALLA WALLA, Wash. — On a crisp Sunday at Wine Valley Golf Club, the Puget Sound men's golf team showed grit and flashes of brilliance in the opening round of the NWC Spring Classic, with senior
Cade Streeter leading the charge.
Streeter fired a 2-under-par 70, highlighted by a steady back nine where he carded four birdies and no bogeys, including birdies on 14, 15 and 18 to close strong. His round placed him in a tie for third overall and marked one of the lowest scores of the day.
Behind him,
Jack Kuntz and
Drew Spitzer each posted solid rounds of 73 (+1). Kuntz came out red-hot, going 3-under through five holes, and held on through a roller-coaster middle stretch to stay within striking distance of the lead. Spitzer, meanwhile, opened with a blazing 35 on the front, including birdies on holes 2, 4 and 8.
Zavier Feasey-Allen and
Charlie Carlson both recorded rounds of 77 (+5) to round out the Logger scoring. While both faced early struggles—Carlson went +2 on the front and +3 on the back, while Feasey-Allen posted a 42 on the outward nine—each settled in for stretches on the inward side. Feasey-Allen notched a 35 coming home, showing resilience down the stretch.
As a team, the Loggers stayed competitive in a deep field, with multiple golfers in the top half of the leaderboard and Streeter anchoring their Day 1 effort.
With one round remaining, Puget Sound will look to build on its momentum.
Round 2
The second round proved to be more difficult for the Loggers as they dropped to sixth place in the invitational. The team finished the event with a total score of 592.
Streeter followed up his opening round 71 with a 1-under-par 72 to finish the Northwest Conference Spring Classic in second place. He came out of the first 9 even, but made up for it with birdies on 14 and 18 to wrap up the day.
Spitzer ended the second round with another score of 73, placing 13th overall after shooting 2-over-par. Kuntz had another whirlwind of a day but was able to reign it in on the back nine to stay within 2 of par. Feasey-Allen carded an 81 and Carlson rounded out the scores for the team, shooting 86.
