TACOMA, Wash. — On an afternoon celebrating three graduating seniors, the Puget Sound women's tennis team delivered a dominant 7-0 win over Spokane at UPS.
Seniors
Krishna Agrawal,
Paige Shinall, and
Hyla Chatham were honored for their contributions to the program, setting the tone for a performance filled with energy, focus, and celebration.
Head coach Matt Simons was sentimental about the biggest senior class of his career (six men, three women). "To see them go out and compete the way they did in front of friends and family - it was truly special."
The Loggers came out firing in doubles play, quickly establishing control. Shinall and Chatham teamed up for a commanding 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 duo of Yamada and Buck followed suit with a 6-1 win, while Agrawal and Hughes sealed the sweep at No. 3 with a clean 6-0 result.
Puget Sound carried the momentum into singles and never looked back.
At No. 1 singles, Yamada powered past her opponent 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 to push to the win. Shinall, playing in her final home match, looked locked in as she defeated Lewis 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Agrawal, another honoree, showed her grit in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lewis at No. 3 singles, while Chatham added to the senior-day sweep with a composed 6-4, 7-5 result over her opponent at No. 4.
Buck and Hughes closed out the match with back-to-back victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Buck cruised 6-1, 6-3, while Hughes ground out a 6-2, 6-1 win, giving Puget Sound its second 7-0 sweep of the season.
Next weekend, Puget Sound begins at Highline College and then travels to Whitworth to finish out the rest of the regular season on the road.
