Loggers Finish ITA Day 1 With Solid Victories

| By:
NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Loggers got off to a solid day one start at the ITA Regional Championships, picking up solid singles and doubles wins.

How It Happened
Doubles play provided mixed results early, as two pairs advanced in the main draw, while two doubles teams dropped their first matches of the fall season. Sebastian Silverstein and Sam Lowrey kicked things off for the Loggers, dropping their match 8-1 to No. 5 seeded Noah Sutin and Kai Wills out of Lewis and Clark.

Jason Rowe and Jackson Stumpf started their round of 32 match hot, securing an 8-2 victory to advance to the round of 16. Tyler Blixt and Vincent Unpingco weren't so lucky, but put up an impressive fight against the No. 3 duo from George Fox. They battled hard, but ultimately fell 8-4 in the round of 32.

Gavin Dille and Aidan Kresko started their day on a high note, winning their round of 64 match 8-6 to kick their day off. They put up a courageous fight against the No. 2 seeded duo from Pacific, falling 8-3 to an experienced duo in Dawson Hose and Jonathan Nguyen.

In singles play, Puget Sound had three players compete in the Flight A main draw. Rowe came in as the No. 3 seed overall, earning a bye in the first round. In the round of 32, he came from behind in dramatic fashion, dropping set one 2-6, before coming back 6-3 in the second set to force a tiebreaker. He pulled it out, going wild as he won the tiebreaker 10-8.

Dille also had a tight match in the first round, beating George Fox's Aiden Cruz in a tiebreaker. After winning the first set 7-5, Dille dropped the second set 3-6. He came back to secure the victory, needing extra tennis to win the tiebreak 11-9. The round of 32 wasn't so kind to Dille, as he faced the No. 12 seed. He dropped his match 2-6, 2-6, and

Stumpf wasn't so lucky, as he dropped his first round match 6-4, 6-3. Battling late into the night, he was a part of the last match of the night – the match extended past 10:00 pm against Guillermo Rodriguez. After winning the first set 6-3, he dropped set two 2-6, and ultimately lost the tiebreak 6-10.

In Flight B, Kresko got off to a hot start in the first set. He won 6-0, but cooled off immediately with a 2-6 second set. He battled, but ultimately lost the tiebreak 4-10. Blixt and Lowery both lost their first round matches as well, both finding themselves in the consolation round beginning tomorrow morning. Silverstein played well, though, winning 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the round of 16. Unpinco got the afternoon off thanks to a bye, and will suit up in the round of 16 in the afternoon.
