NEWBERG, Ore. -- Jason Rowe's run to the Main Singles semi-final highlights Saturday's matches at the Northwest Regional ITAs.
How it Happened
Rowe started his day in the round of 16, easily taking down Linfield's Cameron Paulsen 6-4, 6-1, setting him up for a wild quarterfinal match against No. 15 seeded Matthew Morrison. After dropping the first set in a tiebreak 7(7)-5(5), Rowe battled back 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals. After losing in the round of 16 last year, Rowe has now made it further than any Logger in recent history.
Vincent Unpingco also had a fantastic day in his singles matches, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Brandon Pham in his first match of the day. This set up a wild match against Colebrook Sutherland, as Unpinco had a wild battle for the match. After losing the first set 6-3, his back was against the wall. He came back with a 7-5 second set, setting up a wild third. In an intense rally, he broke through, eventually winning the set 7(7) - 6(4) to advance to the B Draw semifinals.
Outside of the two top performers in Rowe and Unpingco, the Loggers battled hard in the rest of their matches.
Sebastian Silverstein drew No. 2 seeded Claes Hansen in the B draw round of 16, dropping his match 6-3, 6-0. Aiden Kresko also had a good match, but ultimately dropped it 6-3, 6-0 in the B draw consolation.
Tyler Blixt made it to the B Consolation quarters, but dropped his match 6-1, 6-3 to Ethan Kleinman.
Sam Lowery also had a wild match, wining the first set 7-5, before dropping set two 4-6. The tiebreaker went to his opponent – 10-5, as he made an exit in the B draw consolation.
In doubles play, Rowe and
Jackson Stumpf led the charge for the Loggers. They won their first match 8-3, advancing to the main draw quarterfinals. Their luck came to a close, dropping their match to No. 4 seeds Brooks Lerfald and Zac Nakajima 8-6 in the quarters.
Lowery and Silverstein put up a great fight in the doubles consolation bracket, eventually dropping their match 8-5. Unpingco and Blixt got an early win, though, winning their consolation round of 16 match 8-4. Their run came to an end in the quarters, as they dropped their match to Landon Cronin and Arnav Bishnoi.
