Loggers Fight Hard in Day One of ITAs

| By:
NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Loggers open day one of the ITAs with some tough matchups, battling hard against top-ranked conference opponents.

How it Happened
The morning doubles matches got the log rolling at the ITAs as Meredith Friess and Ella Norman dropped their opening match 8-0. Sophomores Frances English and Nicole Wilson put up a fantastic fight against Whitworth's Paige Oliver and Jordan Turner, but the Pirate duo ended up taking it 8-4. Hannah Nejedly Welt and Joy Bean Lowe took on No. 4-seeded Riley Bobkiewicz and Sophie Denham, securing a point, but unfortunately falling 8-1.

Zoe Richter and Ginger Parker had a great doubles match, taking a pair from Linfield deep into the match. After pulling the match to 7-6, they ultimately lost the last game, dropping their match 8-6. The best doubles match of the day was fought by Kaylee Yamada and Pearl Buck. They faced Pirate pairing Josie Kellogg and Hannah Wells, forcing a tiebreak late in the set. The Loggers used their momentum, sweeping the tiebreak 7-0 to advance to the round of 16.

Yamada wasn't as fortunate in her singles match, facing No. 3 seed Sascha Wells out of Whitworth. She ended up dropping the match 6-0, 6-2, facing a bit of exhaustion following her intense doubles match. English faced a similar fate, as Lewis & Clark's Charlotte Makoni took the match 6-2, 6-3. Lowe also drew a tough opponent, dropping her match to No. 2 seed Nana Vang 6-2.

In Flight B, the Loggers continued to fight it out. Buck had another grueling match, winning set one 4-2 before dropping the second set 5-3. The tiebreak went to Pacific's Morgan Wagoner, 10-5, dashing Buck's hopes after a long day. Friess bounced back well after her doubles match, beating Willamette's Fiona Beardsley 4-1, 4-0. Her win was the lone singles win of the afternoon for the Loggers. Ginger, Welt, Norman, and Richter wrapped up the singles matches for the afternoon, as all four played tough opponents.
