SEATTLE, Wash. -- Six Loggers completed in the UW Preview meet, taking on some top talent to kick off the Indoor season.
How it Happened
Defending Northwest Conference cross country champion
Cian Monaghan kicked off the events for the Loggers on Friday, January 16th. He qualified for the 3k, breaking seed and placing 67th overall with a time of 8:42.02.
Monaghan was the only Logger to compete on Friday, as
Thomas Goeglein kicked off Saturday's meet in the Men's Shot Put. Goeglein was the top DIII finisher, finishing above several DI and DII athletes. His first throw of the day came in at 13.72 meters (45'0 ¼ feet), which was good enough for a top-10 finish, sitting comfortably in ninth.
Starting the track events on Saturday was
Kyrstin Wilson, who is coming off an indoor school record in the 60m dash. She got close, finishing just .02 off her top time to finish in 15th. Despite barely missing the mark, Wilson was able to finish ahead of some solid DI and DII talent, placing as the highest-finishing DIII competitor.
Jacob Howmiller also raced in the 60m dash, finishing with a time of 7.46 and finishing in 48th.
Lizzie Beiswanger made her indoor debut in the 400m, cruising to a time of 58.87. This was good enough for 17th, giving the Loggers yet another top-20 finish. Avery Kieth also ran the 400m, this time securing an impressive 6th place in the men's heats. His time of 48.53 was just .3 off his indoor personal best, and was the third best time in Puget Sound indoor history.
Wilson and Howmiller finished off the day in the 200m dash, with Wilson placing 18th with a time of 25.62, and Howmiller placing 33rd with a time of 23.76.
Coach's Thoughts
"This was a great first meet for our athletes," said Logger head coach
Lisa Kushiyama. "It was an opportunity for us to see where they are early in the season against some tough competition. We've got a lot of indoor season to go, and I'm excited to see the growth they make over the next few weeks!"
