SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Loggers compete at two different meets held by the University of Washington, including the UW Invite, and the UW City Mile.
How it Happened
UW Invite
Eight Loggers competed in the UW Invite on Friday, January 30th, taking on some tough DI and DII competition.
Kyrstin Wilson got the log rolling in the track events, racing a 7.80 to place 13th in the 60m dash. She was just 0.04 seconds off her personal best, and was the top DIII competitor.
Jack Joyce and
Jacob Howmiller also ran the 60m, running a 7.08 and 7.51, respectively. Wilson and Joyce also raced in the 200m, finishing out the sprints for Puget Sound. Wilson ran a 25.47 to place 16th, and Joyce finished strong with a top-10 time of 22.42.
Lizzie Beiswanger and
Avery Keith were up next in the 400m, competing for the third week in a row. Beiswanger ran a 57.84, placing 22nd, and Keith ran a 48.72 to place ninth.
Tdohasan Sunray wrapped up the Logger runners for the afternoon, running a 1:56.56 in the 800m dash.
In the field events,
Thomas Goeglein competed in the Men's Shotput, and
Max Pedrotti-Jacobs jumped in the Men's Pole Vault. Goeglein finished with a best throw of 14.19m, and Pedrotti-Jacobs jumped a height of 3.75m.
UW City Mile
Sunray kicked off the UW City mile in the men's seeded heat, running a 4:33.77 to pace the Logger distance squad.
Noah Brown also ran well, finishing with a 4:39.75, finishing out the runners in the seeded heat.
Emily Moore had a fantastic race in the women's open mile, securing a top-five finish with a time of 5:17.11.
Samantha Palm wasn't far behind in 18th, running a 5:25.51, while
Ella Courtnage-Dyke found her way across the line in 5:33.22. Rounding out the women's runners were
Bria Metcalf-Lindenburger (5:39.54),
Sarah Gardner (5:45.79),
Alana Lim (5:57.68), and
Brooklyn Gildersleeve-Stiles (6:00.64).
Four Loggers finished out the UW Mile City meet, all competing in the men's open.
Mercer Stauch led the Logs with a time of 4:52.96, with
David Palmieri not far behind with a time of 4:55.53.
Oliver Kreimer ran a 5:21.25 for Puget Sound, rounding out the meet for the team.
Coach's Thoughts
"Yesterday's invite was another great opportunity for our top athletes to get some good competition and try to hit national qualifying marks," said Logger head coach
Lisa Kushiyama. "I was happy to see most of them improved from their last meet and hit season's best marks."
"Mile City today was a really fun event, and a great opportunity for our distance runners to run on the Dempsey track. Almost all of them set personal best times, and I feel great about the improvement everyone is making this early in the season!"
