LAKEWOOD, Wash -- The Loggers open their season at the American Lake Fall Classic, as the novices lead the way in Rowing's first regatta of the season.
How it Happened
The first regatta of the season proved to be a good one, as both the men's and women's teams rowed well against familiar NCRC competition. The day started with the mixed eights, with all boats rowing a 3k. The wind provided moderate to tough conditions on the water, with the Logger coxswains showing their expertise in navigating through the waves.
The men's team led the way in the Mixed Eights race, finishing in second place with a time of 12:31.5. They were just 16 seconds behind Lewis & Clark, and are in a great position to start their season. Coxswain
Sam Howard did an incredible job steering the boat, leading the young men's crew to second place.
The women's 2V8+ were the stars of the show to begin the season for the women's Mixed Eights, rowing a 14:00.3 to outpace the top boats from Pacific Lutheran and Lewis & Clark. Puget Sound took first and second place, as both 1V8+ and 2V8+ were filled with new rowers. This is an incredible sign to start the season, as the novices single-handedly beat the top opposing boats in the conference. The 1V8+ finished in 14:16.4, beating Lewis & Clark by over 3 seconds.
In the Women's Varsity 4+ race, the Loggers swept once again. The 2V4+ led the way once again, rowing a time of 13:24.7. The 1V4+ was just behind, finishing in 13:28.3. These two boats cleared the way, as no other boats were remotely close to them. Lewis & Clark, the next closest finisher, was nearly 45 seconds behind the two Logger boats. This is a great sign, as the experienced Logger crews dominated the varsity four races.
The Men's Varsity 4+ race proved to be a good one as well, as the men's 1V4+ dominated the waters. They finished with a time of 12:10.0, getting revenge on Lewis & Clark with a 40.4-second gap. The 2V4+ rounded out the rowers, finishing with a time of 14:02.7.
Overall, the Loggers raced really well, showing their strength over Pacific, PLU, and Lewis & Clark to start the season.
