LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Seven Loggers compete in the MPSF Open Water Championships, testing their endurance in a 5k race.
How it Happened
This is the first time the Loggers have ever competed at the MPSF Open Water Championships, testing their distance swimmers before the start of Northwest Conference play. In the men's race,
Sam Lyon led the way, placing 19th with a time of 1:04:51.7. He averaged 1:18 per 100m, swimming as the Loggers' top finisher.
Caleb O'Donnell also swam well, crossing the finish line in 1:08:09.3. The freshman fared well, finishing in 27th.
The final two men's swimmers were
Gavin Legere, and
Anthony Sampson. Legere finished with a time of 11:11:42.0, averaging a 100m split of 1:26 to finish in 33rd. Sampson, despite finishing in 1:07:56.2, was disqualified for cutting the course short, but would have placed in 23rd if his time stood.
On the women's side, Freshman
Merin Schmidt led the way with a 34th-place finish. Her time of 1:10:04.9 was an electric time, as she finished in 7th place in her age group.
Laleeta Pal swam a time of 1:13:11.7, coming in 47th place overall.
Harper McGuire wasn't far behind, swimming to a time of 1:14:02.1 to slide into the top-50.
Overall, the Loggers swam well, and got some great conditioning in before their first NWC dual meet of the season.
