Rowe Grabs Singles Win In Battle Against Otters

PORTLAND, Ore. - - The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team traveled to Portland on Saturday for a dual match against Lewis & Clark College. The Loggers displayed grit in a 6-1 defeat, highlighted by a comeback victory at the top of the singles lineup.

Junior Jason Rowe earned the point for the Loggers at No.1 singles with a resilient three-set performance. After dropping the opening set 7-5, Rowe roared back to take the second 6-2 and outlasted the Otters in a definitive 10-6 tiebreaker. Showing great composure under pressure, he outlasted his opponent to secure the hard-earned point for Puget Sound.
The battle was equally intense in doubles play. A the No.2 position, the duo of Tyler Blixt and Gavin Dille pushed their opponents to the limit. The pait traded games throughout the set to force a tiebreaker, ultimately falling in a narrow 7-6 (7-3) decision. 

Coach Matthew Simons noted that the fight shown on the courts bodes well for the remainder of the season. "I look forward to bouncing back and seeing what they can do Sunday," Simons remarked, emphasizing the team's "heart" following the weekend's opening matches.

What Happens Next

The Loggers will wrap up their weekend road trip tomorrow, February 22, with an 11:00 a.m. match at George Fox University.
