TACOMA, Wash. - - The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team opened its 2026 home conference schedule Saturday morning at The Barn against Lewis & Clark College. While the River Otters took home the 7-0 win, the Loggers pushed several matches to the brink in a highly competitive conference dual.
How It Happened
The most narrow match of the day came at No.5 singles, where Pearl Buck battled through a marathon match against her opponent. After dropping the first set, Buck fought back to force a second set tiebreaker, eventually falling in a close 6-3. 7-6 (7-2) decision. At the top of the lineup, Kaylee Yamada also faced a tough test at No.1 singles, falling 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles play, the duo of Nicole Wilson and Frances English kept things competitive at the No.2 spot before falling 6-3.
Despite the loss, head coach Matthew Simons was encouraged by the squad's performance. "The team continues to impress me with how much heart they are showing on the court," Simons said. "A number of matches were in a position to win but it's about continuing to believe in themselves and the team."
What Happens Next
The Loggers will look to carry that belief into tomorrow, February 22, as they host George Fox University at 11:00 a.m.
