TACOMA, Wash. - - The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team battled hard against George Fox University on Saturday at The Barn, ultimately falling 6–1 in Northwest Conference action.
How It Happened
Puget Sound set the tone early in doubles play. The pairing of Kaylee Yamada and Pearl Buck earned a 6-4 win, while Ginger Parker and Hannah Nejedly Welt clinched a 6-2 win to secure the doubles point for the Loggers and an early lead.
In singles competition, the Loggers battled across the lineup. No. 5 singles, Zoe Richter responded after dropping the first set 6–1 by pushing Audrey Gardner to a tightly contested 7–6 second set. Richter extended multiple rallies before ultimately falling to her opponent.
Meredith Friess also turned in one of the closest matches of the afternoon at No. 6 singles. After falling, 6–4 in the opening set, Friess stayed composed and battled it out in the second, before ultimately dropping a competitive 7–5 set.
At No. 1 singles, Yamada faced a strong opponent and fell 7-5, 6-3, with multiple rallies. Frances English (No. 2) fell 6-3, 6-2, while Bean Lowe and Parker continued to compete point-by-point against a deep George Fox lineup.
Puget Sound will aim to build on its doubles success and capitalize on the competitive single performances shown against a tough Bruins squad.
