Unpingco Digs Deep for Singles Point

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - - The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team showed grit on the courts Saturday, eventually falling 6-1 to the Linfield Wildcats. Despite the final score, the Loggers pushed several matches to the brink, highlighted by a doubles victory and a resilient comeback in singles play.
 

How it Happened

The afternoon began with a high-energy doubles session. At the No. 3 spot, Sam Lowery and Vincent Unpingco provided the highlight of the round, outlasting their opponents in a 7-6 tiebreaker to secure an exciting victory.

At the top of the lineup, Jason Rowe and Jackson Stumpf put together a strong, competitive performance at No. 1 but narrowly fell 6-3. Meanwhile, the duo of Gavin Dille and Tyler Blixt fought hard at the No. 2 position before dropping a 6-2 decision as Linfield claimed the doubles point.

In singles play, the Loggers were led by a standout performance from Unpingco at the No. 4 spot. After dropping a tough first set, Unpingco completely shifted the momentum, storming back to take the second set 6-2 and finishing the match with a 10-5 victory in the third-set tiebreaker to put the Loggers on the board.

Rowe battled through long rallies at the top spot, ultimately falling 6-1, 6-2 against a tough Wildcat opponent. Stumpf showed great composure and consistent play throughout his match, keeping games close despite a 6-2, 6-3 results. Dille pushed his opponent to the limit in a heavy-hitting affair, narrowly missing out on a set in a tight 7-5, 6-4 battle. Lowery competed well in the second set after a slow start, eventually falling 6-0, 6-2. And at the No. 6 spot, Sebastian Silverstein was involved in a long match, showing incredible endurance in a marathon first-set tiebreaker, winning 7-6 (6). After dropping the second set 6-3, he fought until the final point in a 10-7 third set tiebreaker.

What Happens Next

The Loggers look to bounce back tomorrow as they travel to Forest Grove to face Pacific University at 11 AM.
