| By:

TACOMA, Wash. - - The University of Puget Sound women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance at The Barn on Saturday morning, sweeping the Linfield Wildcats 7-0.

How It Happened

The Loggers set the tone early by clinching the doubles point with strong wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Frances English and Nicole Wilson battled to a 6-4 victory, while Ginger Parker and Hannah Nejedly Welt dominated with a 6-1 win. At the No. 1 spot, Kaylee Yamada and Pearl Buck fought through a back and forth thriller, falling 7-5.

Puget Sound carried that momentum into singles, where they won across the board to shut out the Wildcats. No. 1 Yamada put on a show for the home crowd. After dropping her opening set, she rallied back to force a 10-point match tiebreaker, showcasing grit to get the win for the Loggers. English showed skill in two tight sets. She took the first set in a tiebreaker before closing out the match with a 7-5 win in the second. Bean Lowe also had a strong showing. She played only two sets in a decisive 6-2, 6-0 win. Wilson continued her momentum from doubles play. After dropping the first set 6-3, she flipped the script, shutting out her opponent 6-0 in the second and finishing the comeback with a 6-2 win in the third. Buck remained steady throughout her match, earning a straight-sets victory with scores of 6-4, 6-1. And at the No. 6 spot, Meredith Friess provided the exclamation point for the afternoon, delivering a flawless performance with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
