Strong Finish Leads Loggers to Eighth Place Finish at Willamette Valley Cup

SALEM, Ore. -- The Men's Golf team kicked off their spring season at the Willamette Valley Cup, placing eighth in their first event of the season. 

How it Happened
Round 1
Charlie Stephens played well to lead the Loggers, shooting a 72 (+1) in a clean round. He had a total of 15 pars, one birdie, and two bogeys to conclude round one tied for 19th. His one-under front nine score of 35 highlighted his solid round, birdying the par-four fifth. Andrew Spitzer continued his solid play after a good round at the Washington Cup, shooting a 35 (-1) on the front nine before finishing with a 74 (+3). 

Michael Baker and Cade Steeter also shot in the 70s, with Baker shooting a 75 (+4) and Streeter a 76 (+5) for the Loggers. Streeter went three under through a four-hole stretch notching birdies on holes one, three, and four to boost his round. Jack Kuntz rounded out the top five shooting a 90 (+19) to conclude his day. 

Individually, Jackson Dorlarque shot a 76 (+5), Charlie Carlson shot an 83 (+12) and Carlie Reisman shot an 88 (+17) to conclude the scoring for round one. 

Round 2
The Loggers improved by six strokes on day two, shooting a seven-over 291 to maintain their spot in eighth place. The field was littered with birdies, as the top four Loggers combined for 18 birdies, helping the team balance out their scorecards. 

Spitzer led the way for the Loggers in round two, shooting a 70 (-1) to move up 13 spots in the individual leader board. After starting three over through four holes, Spitzer shot 1-under to complete the back nine (starting on hole 7), and then birdied holes two, three, and four to finish his round four under in his final nine holes. 

Kuntz bounced back from his first round 90 (+19) to finish with an electric 19-stroke improvement on day two. After a back-and-forth start to his round, Kuntz birdied three of his final five holes to bring his score back to even par. He finished his day with seven birdies, seven bogeys, and just four pars. 

After leading the Loggers in round one, Stephens shot a 74 (+3) in round two. He got off to a bit of a slow start like the others, also birdying three of his final six holes. He shot an even par 36 on the front nine, finishing out the tournament strong. Streeter was the final scoring Logger for the day, shooting a 76 (+5) to cap the scoring. He also shot a 36 (E) on the front nine, shooting 2-under in his final nine holes. 

The Loggers picked up nine strokes on the field in the final nine holes, catapulting their way up the leader board. Baker wrapped up the scoring five, shooting a 78 (+7) on day two. Reisman (+3), Carlson (+9) and Dorlarque (+15) concluded the scores for the Loggers individually. 

What Happens Next
The Loggers head to Arrowhead GC in Molalla, Ore. on March 30th and 31st.
