FOREST GROVE, Ore. - - The Logger men's tennis team showed resolve on Sunday, pushing Pacific University through several down to the wire sets before ultimately falling 6-1. The Loggers remained competitive throughout the day, highlighted by a win at No. 6 singles.
How It Happened
Doubles
Puget Sound nearly clinched the opening point of the day with a pair of extremely tight matches. At the No. 1 position, Jason Rowe and Jackson Stumppf played some of their best tennis, forcing a tiebreaker in a match that could have gone either way before falling 7-6. At the No. 3 spot, Sam Lowery and Vincent Unpingco also pushed their opponents to the limit, trading games until a late break resulted in a 7-5 final.
At No. 2, Gavin Dille and Tyler Blixt stayed competitive throughout their 6-2 set , contributing to a doubles round that was much closer than the score suggested.
Singles
Lowery provided the highlight for the Loggers at the No. 6 singles spot. Lowery played strong , consistent tennis to earn a 6-4, 6-4 victory, securing a hard earned point for Puget Sound and maintaining momentum through both sets.
At the No. 1 spot, Rowe came out firing, taking the opening set 6-4. He went head to head with the Boxers in a battle before eventually dropping the match in a three-set contest.
Dille at the No. 3 spot dropped his first set 7-5, he roared back to claim the second set by the same margin. The match went to a deciding ten-point tiebreaker, where Dille pushed until the last point in a narrow 10-8 finish.
Stumpf showed great energy at No. 2; after a tough start, he locked in for an intense second set, narrowly missing a tiebreaker in a 7-5 battle.
What Happens Next
The Loggers will wrap up their busy weekend at home with a non-conference matchup against Salisbury University. First serve is set for Monday, March 16, at 9 AM at The Barn.
