SALEM, Ore. -- The Women's Golf team kicked off their spring season at the Willamette Valley Cup, getting a good look at the rest of the Northwest Conference before the two major conference events.
How it Happened
Round 1
After winning her first collegiate tournament in the fall, Kira Goode led Puget Sound with a first round 81 (+10). She started her round off well, birdying back-to-back holes on the 11th and 12th, to go even through her first five holes (started on hole 8). A couple of pars to end the back nine led to a 38, highlighting her round on her way to an 81.
Francesca Brinkman and Cayton Smith both finished in the 80s as well, as Brinkman finished with an 87 (+16) and Smith finished with an 88 (+17). Smith's birdie on the par-four second hold was the highlight of her round, as the two played very consistent golf en route to rounds in the 80s. Abigail Udlock and Elise Munding rounded out the scoring five for the Loggers, with Udlock shooting a 100 (+29) and Minding a 102 (+31).
Round 2
After a round one score of 356 (+72), the Loggers bounced back with a six stroke improvement on day to shoot a 350 (+66), totaling a 706 (+138) overall.
Goode led the way yet again in round two, starting her day off with seven straight pars. After finding some trouble on holes three and four, Goode bounced back with a birdie on the par-three sixth. She finished her day with an 80 (+9) to shoot a 161 (+17) total. Munding and Smith also shot in the 80s for the second straight day, with Munding shooting an 88 (+17) and Smith an 89 (+18) to round out the top scores for the Loggers.
Brinkman played much better on day two, improving by nine strokes to give the loggers a solid fourth counting score. Her 93 (+22) included a front nine score of 42 - the second best out of the Loggers all weekend. Udlock concluded the Loggers' scoring with a 112 (+41), but looks to bounce back in two weeks time.
