Dille Powers Through in Hard Fought Match Against Salisbury

| By:

TACOMA, Wash. - - The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team brought a high energy, competitive spirit to their home courts on Monday morning, battling through a non conference match against Salisbury University. While the seagulls managed to take the overall win, the highlight of the day came from a resilient singles performance that showcase the team's ability to win under pressure.

How It Happened

The morning began with a challenging doubles round as Silsbury's experienced pairings looked to seize early control. Despite several high-speed rallies and aggressive play at the net from the Loggers, the Seagulls managed to sweep all three matches. The Puget sound duos showed flashes of brilliance, parituclarly in their defensive coverage, but were unable to break through the Seagulls' service games to secure a point.

In single play, the Loggers dug in for a series of physical matches. The standout of the afternoon was Gavin Dille at the No. 3 spot. Dille put on a show in composure, navigating two intense sets that both required tiebreakers to decide. Refusing to blink, Dille executed perfectly in the clutch moments to secure a straight sets victory, winning 7-6, 7-6.

The rest of the lineup followed Dille's lead by forcing Salisbury into several long games. At the No. 2 position, Jackson Stumpf showed incredible heart; after dropping the first set, he stormed back to take the second 7-5, forcing a decisive third set before ultimately falling. Jason Rowe also challenged his opponent at the top spot, pushing through a 6-4 opening set, while Vincent Unpingco battled through a 7-5, 6-3 match at No. 4 that saw many deuce-point rallies. Sebastian Silverstein and Sam Lowery added to the Logger effort at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, staying aggressive against a hard-hitting Salisbury back-half.

What Happens Next

The Loggers will take the upcoming week off from competition to focus on team development. This mid-season break serves as the perfect ramp-up for a major home stand. Puget Sound returns to The Barn on Saturday, March 28, to host Lewis & Clark College at 11 AM for a key Northwest Conference showdown.
