NEWBERG, Ore. - - Logger women's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision to George Fox on Sunday, but the final score didn't reflect the several gritty performances across both doubles and singles play.
How it Happened
The Loggers started the day strong at No. 3 doubles, where the duo of Zoe Richter and Ginger Parker earned a 6-4 win. At the top of lineup, Pearl Buck and Kaylee Yamada had a close battle defined by long rallies before falling 6-4. In the No. 2 spot, Frances English and Nicole Wilson played competitively but dropped their set 6-2 as the Bruins secured the doubles point.
Singles competition featured several marathon matches, as the Loggers forced multiple sets into extra games.
Yamada battled through two tight sets at the No. 1 spot, falling 7-5, 6-3. At No. 5, Buck showed heart, after dropping the first set 6-2, she stormed back to take the second 6-4, forcing a tiebreaker before the Bruins eventually took the match. Meredith Friess also found early success at the No. 6 spot, taking the opening set 6-2. However, her opponent rallied to take the second 6-0 and claimed the win in an intense third-set tiebreaker.
In other singles action, English, Bean Lowe and Wilson all fought through their respective matches but were unable to take sets to the third.
A highlight for the Loggers came in exhibition play, where Ella Norman put together a strong performance. Norman defeated her opponent 8-4.
