Friess Cruises to Singles Win in Yakima Road Clash

| By:

YAKIMA, Wash. - - The Logger women's tennis team opened its road trip with a non-conference match against The College of Idaho on Friday afternoon. Although the Yotes claimed a 6-1 team victory, the Loggers remained competitive throughout the day with a singles win at the No. 6 spot.

How it Happened

The afternoon began with a competitive battle at doubles. The No. 1 pair of Kaylee Yamada and Pearl Buck clashed with their opponents, playing high-level tennis in a 6-4 set. While the Yotes ultimately swept the doubles point, the Loggers' pairings of Nicole Wilson and Frances English at No. 2, and Ginger Parker and Hannah Nejedly Welt at No. 3, gained valuable experience against a tough non-conference opponent.

Transitioning into singles, the highlight of the day belonged to freshman Meredith Friess. Competing at the No. 6 spot, Friess delivered a strong showing, moving her opponent across the court to secure a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win and put a point on the board for Puget Sound.

Up at the top of the order, Yamada showed resilience in the opening set of the No. 1 singles match, fighting through several tough games before falling 6-2, 6-0. Throughout the rest of the lineup, Loggers continued to compete hard, using the match as a building block for the remainder of the season.
