LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- The Loggers kicked off their Spring season at the Washington Cup, placing second at home against the other three Northwest Conference schools in the state of Washington.
How it Happened
The scoring was close all the way around, as the Loggers capped their day T-2nd, shooting a team score of 307. Whitworth and No. 20 ranked Whitman also shot a 23-over 307, as the three schools all finished with the same score. Pacific Lutheran won the tournament, shooting a 21-over 305 to reclaim the Apple Cup Trophy.
Drew Spitzer led the way for the Loggers, finishing his day with a 3-over 74 to place second overall. After a pair of bogeys plagued Spitzer in the first five holes, he bounced back with birdies on 6 and 18 to round out his score. Jack Kuntz also finished in the top-10, shooting a five-over 76. After shooting a 41 on the front, Kuntz bounced back with an even par 35 on the back to score for the Loggers.
The final two counting scores for the Loggers were also both in the 70s, as Michael Baker shot a seven-over 78, and Cade Streeter shot an eight-over 79. Both were in excellent position through the first 16 holes, but a pair of tough finishing stretches kept the pair out of the top-10. Their strong play in tough conditions prevailed, though, as they scored well enough for a second-place finish.
Rounding out the starting five for the Loggers was Charlie Stephens, who got off to a two-under start through two holes. After finishing the front at even par, a tough back nine meant a final score of 81. Charlie Reisman, Jackson Dorlarque, and Kenny Castro all played as individuals, with Reisman shooting an 80, Dorlarque an 83, and Castro a 91.
