Rowe and Stumpf Lead Loggers Against Blues

TACOMA, Wash. - - The University of Puget Sound men's tennis team fell 7-0 to Whitman College in a Northwest Conference dual match on Sunday morning. Despite the final score, the Loggers delivered several competitive performances, including a doubles win and closely battled singles matches.

How It Happened

Puget Sound opened the afternoon with a strong performance at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Jason Rowe and Jackson Stumpf earned a 6-3 win over Whitman, giving the Loggers an early highlight. Whitman, however secured the doubles point by winning the remaining two matches. At No. 2 doubles, Tyler Blixt and Gavin Dille pushed Whitman to a tight contest before falling 7-6. In the No. 3 spot, Whitman defeated Puget Sound, 6-0.

In singles competition, the Blues claimed all six matches to complete the sweep. Stumpf and Vincent Unpingco delivered two of the Loggers' most competitive showings of the day. At No. 2 singles, Stumpf battled Jensen before falling 6-3, 6-3. Unpingco also fought hard in the No. 4 spot, dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Rodriguez.

Rowe competed at No. 1 singles for Puget Sound, falling 6-3, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Dille was defeated 6-1, 6-2.

Although the final score favored Whitman, the Loggers showed resilience and competitiveness throughout the match, highlighted by their No. 1 doubles victory and strong individual efforts in singles play.

"I was really proud of the way the guys competed," said Logger's head coach Matthew Simons. "Rowe and Unpingco both had strong matches in singles, our No. 2 doubles also battled right to the end against a team that just won the ITA tournament."

What Happens Next

The Loggers will look to build on those performances as they continue Northwest Conference play next Saturday, March 14, at Pacific University, starting at 11:00 AM.
