INDIANAPOLIS—Puget Sound's women's crew wrapped up its 2014 season Saturday, competing in the petit final of the Division III NCAA Championship Regatta held at Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park.
Puget Sound's varsity 8+ boat finished the B final in 7:37.255, going head-to-head with the varsity 8+ boat from William Smith. The Logger crew kept pace with William Smith in the first quarter of the race, passing the 500 meter mark just a second and a half after the Herons. In the second 500 meters Puget Sound faltered, however, and was unable to make up the five seconds lost during the second part of the race. With their time of 7:37, the Loggers took eighth place in the championship regatta.
Trinity (Ct.) crossed the line first in the Division III varsity 8+ grand final held immediately after the petit final, beating out Williams by two seconds. Thanks in part to the victory to the V8+ win, Trinity won the team title with 40 points. Williams and Bates tied for second at 33 points. Neither Puget Sound nor William Smith were involved with the team competition as both schools earned at-large spots for their varsity 8+ boats only.
With the eighth-place finish in the NCAA Championships, the Loggers wrap up the 2014 crew season and 2013-14 athletic season for Puget Sound. Logger Crew will look to make its 13th consecutive NCAA Championship next season in 2015.
