TACOMA, Washington – Puget Sound is pleased to introduce David Hammond as the new head coach for men's and women's crew.
Hammond arrives to Tacoma from Davis, California, where he was the head coach for UC-Davis women's rowing since the fall of 2016. He also spent recent summers as the head coach for the Penn Athletic Club Rowing Association in Philadelphia.
"We are excited to welcome Dave to Puget Sound," said Director of Athletics
Amy Hackett. "Dave brings tremendous passion for the sport of rowing, and we believe he will bring great energy to the program. He has a strong work ethic and has demonstrated collaborative effort and investment in developing a program."
Hammond led the UC-Davis women's varsity-eight to American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) grand finals in 2022, 2019, 2018, and 2017. As a team, the Aggies placed third in the 2017 ACRA Championship.
"I have loved the sport of rowing since I started as a high school freshman, all through college, and on to the west coast coaching ranks," said Hammond. "I'm now thrilled to bring that passion to the University of Puget Sound. Rowing has been uniquely formative in my life, and I'm eager to ensure current and future Logger crew members have as rewarding and beautiful adventures in this sport as I have. I can't wait to help write the next chapter at this storied program."
Hammond rowed collegiately at Washington State.
Hammond takes over for a women's program that placed second in the NWC Championship in 2022, and will oversee a men's program that bested all boats from D-III schools this past spring.
