DUPONT, Wash. – The Puget Sound men's golf team finished fifth at the PLU Invitational this weekend at the Home Course in Dupont, Wash. Ricky Howard led the Loggers in seventh place individually.
The Loggers saw a dramatic improvement from day one to day two as they shaved 13 strokes off their team score. After firing a 322 (+34) on the first day, four Loggers went sub-80 on the second day to shoot a 309 (+21).
Howard was the only Logger to shoot under 80 on the first day as he shot a 79 (+7) and followed it up with a 76 (+4) on the second day to finish seventh overall. Nick Kelley finished tied for eighth with a two-day score of 156 (+12).
Adam Bean, the Logger Invitational medalist, finished 17th with a 16-over 160 and Karlen Rothenbuler took 28th as he shot a 164 (+20).
Linfield took the team title with a 31-over 607. The Wildcats' Alex Fitch took medalist honors with a four-over 148. Pacific Lutheran took second followed by North Idaho and Whitworth, who tied for third. The Loggers finished fifth with an 11-stroke lead over Willamette in sixth. George Fox in seventh and Pacific in eighth rounded out the team scores.
The Loggers are at the Pacific Invitational on Mar. 17-18.
