RICHARDSON, Texas – Kyle Benson scored his first goal of the season, then scored again and again. Benson recorded the first hat trick of the season for the Loggers and the first of his career to lead the Loggers to a 4-2 victory for the Puget Sound men's soccer team over McMurry.
Carson Swope scored his second goal of the game to give the Loggers an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Benson went to work after that, scoring his first goal in the 18th minute. The Loggers went into the locker room with a 2-0 lead. Benson came out on fire in the second half, scoring his second and third goals within three minutes of each other.
Benson scored in the 57th minute and again in the 59th minute to give the Loggers a 4-0 lead. Landon Gauthier assisted on Benson's first two goals while Nick McGee picked up the assist on his third goal.
McMurry scored two late goals to cut the deficit to 4-2, but it was too little too late.
The Loggers return home next week to take on Trinity Lutheran on Saturday and St. Olaf on Sunday.
