Nationally-ranked Loggers head to Slugfest Tournament

TACOMA, Washington - The nationally ranked No. 17 Puget Sound men's soccer team remains undefeated as it heads into its two-match road trip as part of the Slugfest Tournament hosted by UC Santa Cruz. The Loggers take on Chapman on Friday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. and UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1:30 p.m.

Puget Sound is ranked No. 17 in the nation, according to this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. The Loggers are in the only Northwest Conference team in the national poll. 

 

Review

The Loggers began their 2019 campaign with three consecutive home games. Puget Sound went into double overtime against Augsburg, Aug. 30. The 110-minute match ended in a 1-1 tie. However, the Loggers came out triumphant with a 3-0 victory over Cal Lutheran, Sept. 1. 

 

Strong Offense against Multnomah 

Puget Sound wrapped up its three home-game stretch with an 8-0 shutout win in a non-conference match against Multnomah, Sept. 7. The Loggers' offense remained aggressive throughout the game, with goals from several players. Angel Herrera-Flores scored three goals in the game. Lincoln Schell scored his second goal of the season with a header off a crossed ball from Sean Hamel. Freshman Jack Henderson scored his first-career goal in the 62nd minute. 

 

Logger of the Week

Angel Herrera-Flores was named the Logger of the Week for his phenomenal performance against the Lions, scoring three goals to keep the Loggers undefeated. 

 

Scouting Chapman 

The Panthers, out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), defeated Pacific (Ore.) earlier this week (Sept. 1) with a 3-0 victory. Chapman is out-shooting its opponents, 31-8, through two games. 

 

Scouting UC Santa Cruz

The Banana Slugs, out of the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA), defeated Whitworth, 1-0, for their second win of the year, Sept. 8. UC Santa Cruz is 2-2-0 on the season.
