Olney captures 300th career win with Puget Sound

TACOMA, Washington - Sean Hamel and Angel Herrera-Flores each scored crucial goals, lifting Puget Sound to a 2-0 victory over Willamette Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Loggers improve to 6-2-2 overall and 3-2 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette falls to 6-2-2 overall and 3-2 in NWC.

In the 40th minute, the Loggers took advantage of a free kick outside the 18-yard box. Hamel received a short pass from Murdock, and buried the offering into the left side of the net.

The Loggers held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

Thirteen minutes into the second half, Angel Herrera-Flores tallied his sixth goal of the season with a quick touch off a cross from Cale Spence

Late in the second half the Bearcats made a strong bid to score, but Ethan Stern-Ellis broke up a cross pass.

Puget Sound Head Coach Reece Olney clinched his 300th win with the Loggers. Olney is in his 26th year at the helm of Puget Sound. He led the Loggers to NWC titles in 1999, 2002, 2006, and 2013. The 1999 team celebrated its 20th anniversary at the end of today's game. That squad was recognized for its 20-2-0 record while finishing the season ranked sixth in the nation.

Puget Sound hosts Linfield Sunday, Oct. 6, at 12 p.m. on East Field.
