Men’s tennis falls 6-3 to Willamette

TACOMA, Wash.—The Puget Sound men's tennis team tallied three wins Friday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to beat Willamette as the Bearcats prevailed 6-3 in the team competition at the Tennis Pavilion on the Puget Sound campus in Tacoma, Wash.

Willamette started out the match winning two of the three doubles points. Puget Sound's win came in the second doubles position when Daniel Deuel and Jake Peterson took down the Bearcats' duo of Sam Wexman and Gunnar Lee 8-4. The Bearcats' Nos. 1 and 3 doubles teams won those contests by similar scores.

In singles play, the Loggers tallied two of the four wins they needed to claim the match. Chas Stewart earned his first win of the year at No. 2 doubles with a two-set victory. He beat Willamette opponent Will Cooper 6-3, 7-6 for the point. Also, Myles Rivera-Flam tallied his first individual collegiate win in No. 3 singles. He dispatched Willamette's Devin Abney 6-3, 6-4 in that contest.

Atop the singles lineup, Deuel took Sam Wexman to a third-set tiebreaker but fell in the end 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

The Loggers (0-2, 0-2 NWC) are back in action Saturday, March 1, when they host Linfield. That match will begin at 12:00 p.m., again at the on-campus Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
