TACOMA, Washington – Bailee Larson belted her second home run of the season, but the Puget Sound softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against visiting Northwest on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: Puget Sound 1, Northwest 8
The Loggers (0-6) trailed 3-0 in the fourth inning, but Marissa Jeffers led off the home half of the frame by getting hit by a pitch. Jeffers was thrown out at second as Lisa Colombo reached on a fielder's choice, and a passed ball allowed Colombo to move up a base.
Kristi Nagamine capitalized with a runner in scoring position and ripped an RBI single to right field to put the Loggers on the board.
The Eagles scored five runs (four earned) in the final two innings to put the game out of reach.
With Puget Sound trailing 4-0, Larson led off the fourth inning by crushing her second home run of the season to fight field.
The Loggers trailed 10-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, but Puget Sound showed resilience through the end. Erica Gott led off the bottom of the inning with double to center, and Kasey Stern followed with a single. Stern then took second base on a wild pitch to put two Loggers in scoring position.
Colombo and Paige Schaffer followed with consecutive RBIs for the final two runs of the game.
The return to the field for Northwest Conference action when they play at Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 28.
