SALEM, Oregon – The Loggers dropped a pair of games to Willamette (2-0, 2-0 NWC) on Saturday. Puget Sound fell, 2-1, before losing 8-0 in the second game of the double header.
Willamette 2, Puget Sound 1
Jaci Young hit her first home run of the year, but the Loggers fell 2-1 to begin Northwest Conference play.
Puget Sound jumped on the board in the first inning, with Young driving the ball deep over the left field fence.
The Bearcats tied up the game 1-1 in the fourth inning with a double and RBI groundout. The following inning, Willamette took the lead, 2-1. The Loggers put a runner on base in the sixth inning when Erica Gott drew a walk, but she was ultimately stranded.
Jaci Young (0-3) took the loss for the Loggers. She threw all 6.0 innings, allowing two runs and striking out three.
Willamette 8, Puget Sound 0
The Bearcats jumped on the board early, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Willamette would add another run in the each of the third and fourth innings.
The first three runners for the Bearcats reached base in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashley Pender then hit a single through the left side, allowing two runners to come around and score, putting Willamette ahead, 8-0, and ending the game.
Erica Gott (0-2) threw 4.0 innings, giving up six runs while striking out one. Kayla Andrus threw the final inning, giving up two runs (one earned).
The Loggers will play Willamette in two games on Saturday, Feb. 28. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
