Make-up game with Pios, series with Wildcats on tap

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team is set to make up a game with Lewis & Clark, before taking on Linfield in a four game series this weekend. The Loggers will play the Pioneers in a single game on Friday. The team will then travel to the Wildcats to play a doubleheader each on Saturday and Sunday.

Upset city

The Loggers (9-20, 3-16 NWC) took on No. 25-ranked, and Northwest Conference-leading Whitworth last weekend. Puget Sound got off to a roaring start, going up 7-0 in the second inning against the Pirates, and eventually winning the first game on Saturday, 11-7. Kayla Andrus was 3-for-4 with four RBI in the game, while Kristi Nagamine was 3-for-3, and Mckenna Johnson recorded three runs batted in.

Senior taking charge

Kayla Andrus is the lone senior on the Logger squad, and is proving her leadership, especially at the plate. Andrus is first on the team with a .330 batting average, and also leads Puget Sound with a .527 slugging percentage and 19 RBI. She has hit six doubles and four home runs in 2016.

Erica uprising

Erica Gott is putting together a solid season, both at the plate and in the circle. The sophomore is hitting .255, with four home runs, eight doubles, and 14 RBI. She is also 5-6 as a pitcher, with a team leading 4.22 earned run average. Gott has struck out 28 batters in 63.0 innings pitched.

Scouting the Pioneers (14-17, 8-11 NWC)

Lewis & Clark most recently took three out of four games against Willamette. The team is hitting .296 this year, led by Paige Salavea (.415). Emily Drevdahl is hitting .326, and leads the squad with three home runs and 24 RBI. Kalin Rooney is 5-3 in the circle for the Pioneers. She has a 2.79 ERA, and has struck out 25 batters in 57.2 innings pitched.

Scouting the Wildcats (20-11, 12-8 NWC)

The team most recently took two games against Willamette in a makeup doubleheader on Wednesday. Linfield split a four-game series with Pacific Lutheran prior to that. The Wildcats are hitting .300 as a team. Melanie Oord leads the squad with a .408 batting average and 24 RBI. Erin Trauscher leads Linfield with six home runs. Shelby Saylors is 11-2 in the circle, with a 1.98 earned run average. She has struck out 44 batters in 77.2 innings. Maddy Dunn is 7-4, and has a 3.24 ERA. She has recorded 31 strikeouts in 82.0 innings pitched.
