McMINNVILLE, Oregon – The Puget Sound softball team wrapped up its four-game road series at Linfield with a pair of losses on Sunday afternoon.
Puget Sound 0, Linfield 3
Jaci Young allowed only three runs through six innings, but Linfield topped the Loggers, 3-0. The Wildcats mustered six hits and a walk against Young, which was just enough offense to beat Puget Sound. The Loggers totaled just two hits, one by McKenna Johnson and the other by Erica Gott.
Linfield did all of its damage in the sixth inning, starting with consecutive bunt singles followed by a two-run double by Melanie Oord.
Young eclipsed the 100-innings mark for the season (101.1) during the game, and she lowered her ERA to 4.01 on the season.
Puget Sound 7, Linfield 10
The Loggers and Wildcats were tied, 4-4, through 3.5 innings, but Linfield put five runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth en route to a 10-7 win.
Linfield took a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Loggers answered right back with a three-run third inning. Amber Popovich and McKenna Johnson hit consecutive singles, and Jessica Gott drew a walk to load the bases. Kayla Andrus followed with an RBI single, and Erica Got earned a bases-loaded walk for another run. Haley Suzuki then reached on an error that allowed Jessica Gott to score.
Linfield evened the score in the bottom of the third, but the Loggers got a run back in the fourth when Haley Gray scored an unearned run after drawing a walk.
Down 9-4, Jessica Gott and Andrus opened the top of the fifth inning with back-to-back singles. Gott sored on a fielder's choice, and Andrus touched home following a single by Jessica Shimoda.
Andrus finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Gott hit 2-for-2 with two runs.
The Loggers are at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, April 16, for a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.
